Does your Photoshop 5.5 (1999 version, yes?) hang on startup? Like only the main window appears, but not the Photoshop logo, and then it stops responding?I had that issue too with one of the two computers I've installed Windows 10 on: One was upgraded from Windows 7, the other was refreshed just hours ago.On the upgraded machine, Photoshop 5.5 didn't work and when trying to reinstall, the installer would hang, too, but then on the refreshed computer, it installed and worked without any problems.Back on the upgraded machine, I booted it in safe mode and the photoshop worked just fine. Back in regular mode, it hung again. I started disabling pointless services and startup items and then on next reboot, it worked.Try your photoshop in safe mode. If it works there, you'll need to poke around your Windows install to see what's conflicting with your Photoshop loading. It otherwise DOES work.I have tried so hard to get comfortable with later versions of Photoshop but 5.5's just perfect for me.

Or where it is.I have had trouble with Photoshop 5.5 losing the ability to use any tools on certain jpgs. After weeks of fucking around I found that 'double clicking' a jpg would disable all tools.

I needed to 'right click and select 'open' rather than double click. Where is that corrupted bit of info saved? With a Mac I can organize folders by 'Date Modified' and that tool looks inside the folder.
Windows won't let me look in protected folders even after I reset permissions and log in as admin. So how do I organize by 'Date Modified'.I have resisted buying a new Windows 10 computer for fear I would lose Photoshop 5.5. So it is nice to know (if you know how to do this) that I don't have to rule that out completely.
